Intel Corporation today introduced its third-generation Intel® vPro™ suite of business desktop PC technologies, which among other features enhances security and reduces the time and cost of maintenance by enabling PCs to literally think and act for themselves. The new vPro Technology for desktop PCs also opens the door to new virtualized PC models and products aimed at the special needs of small businesses.
The new Intel vPro Technology (formerly codenamed “McCreary”) combines the energy-efficient performance of Intel® Core™2 quad-core or dual-core processors with the new Intel® Q45 Express Chipset and Intel® 82567LM Gigabit Network Connection along with Intel® Active Management technology 5.0.
Among the new business-class technology innovations, this 2008 version for the first time extends IT organizations’ reach to protect and manage PCs beyond the corporate firewall. With the new Remote Alert feature, a suddenly ailing PC – even one that is turned off – that is experiencing symptoms outside preset parameters can “call” for IT assistance on its own.
Using the new Remote Scheduled Maintenance feature, IT administrators can program PCs for regular tune-ups that have PCs automatically connecting to an IT management program for maintenance. With the new Fast Call for Help feature, the user can get immediate assistance over an out-of-band link by entering a key sequence , even if the computer is completely crippled with a failed operating system or hard drive.
“Intel vPro Technology has been a win-win for the IT industry and high-tech industries, and each year we’ve unveiled unique innovations to solve IT’s biggest challenges,” said Gregory Bryant, Intel vice president and general manager, Digital Office Platform Division. “For 2008, vPro Technology continues that trend, automating repair and maintenance functions to not only free IT professionals’ time, but rapidly accelerate the time it takes to get endusers up and running.”
In addition, for 2008 Intel beefed up access security with two new features. The new Access Monitor feature comprehensively and more securely logs IT activity on systems, further closing the door on potential internal security breaches. The platform also offers the first embedded technology to authenticate PCs using Microsoft* Network Access Protection,* enabling protected out-of-band remote maintenance on Intel vPro-based systems.
New Small-Business Solutions Added
For the first time, Intel has molded Intel vPro Technology in a form to specifically fit the needs of small businesses, those whose computer systems are likely managed by someone with no computer background at all. Designed for businesses with less than 25 notebooks or desktop PCs, Intel® IT Director offers a user-friendly “dashboard” that provides status on key system settings and health parameters, capability to block connection to risky USB devices and a data back-up feature that enables users to work seamlessly through hard-drive failures.
For small businesses which periodically need immediate help with PC problems, Intel unveiled Intel® Remote PC Assist Technology that connects those businesses with service providers that can assist when an end-user enters a key sequence. Once connected, service providers can take full advantage of the out-of-band capabilities, and security and management features of vPro Technology to solve problems remotely. For the service provider, Intel Remote PC Assist Technology means enhanced service delivery, reduced operational costs and broader access to customers. Initially, Intel Remote PC Assist will be available in North America.
Intel also introduced two motherboards supporting all of the new Intel® vPro features. Aimed at channel customers, the Intel® Desktop Board DQ45CB is for standard-sized PCs and the Intel® Desktop Board DQ45EK is for small- form-factor systems.
Creating New Computing Models for Security, Manageability
Many IT organizations are looking to new application delivery technologies to strengthen security, improve management and lower total cost of ownership. Dynamic Virtual Client technologies (DVC), Intel’s designation for a new group of computing models, work in conjunction with Intel vPro Technology to centralize data security and application management on a server, but “stream” applications on demand to a desktop or laptop PC where they run under the PCs own processing power. In this way, DVC preserves user mobility and performance, simplifies IT management and security, and, unlike thin-client models, does not require a large-scale burden on the datacenter. Citrix, Lenovo, and Microsoft recently announced DVC products or programs that take advantage of Intel vPro technology.

Kita Pulak Bagi Subsidi Kepada Kerajaan
It's not my intention to talking about politics in this blog but one article grabbed from www.tranungkite.net is really interesting to let people know
1 barrel(tong) = 159 liter
1 USD = RM 3.45 (converter di sini)
harga minyak semasa = USD92.7 setong (rujuk sini)
Dulu USD145 x 3.3 (Rate semasa) / 159 liter = RM3 – RM0.30 (Subsidi) = RM2.70
Skrg USD93 x 3.45 (Rate semasa) / 159 liter = RM2 – RM0.30 (Subsidi) = RM1.70
Kerajaan jual => RM2.55
Harga tanpa subsidi => RM2.00

Mobile Number Portability
I had mixed feeling about Mobile Number Portability (MNP), which just began in Malaysia.
It was interesting move by implementing such system so that people get more choices on their hand.
I personally found that the implementation of MNP is rite on track especially when I had plan on my mind to change my telco… hehehe.
When I was interviewing Celcom (Malaysia) Bhd CEO, officer Datuk Seri
Shazalli Ramly last week to get his comment about MNP, he confident that Celcom’s customer will strongly maintain with them.
This confident statement based on services provided by them include widest network, contents etc.
NST on 29/08/2008 reports
CELULAR phone companies can charge up to RM25 each time a subscriber
decides to change their operators under the mobile number portability
(MNP) service.
MNP, which will start in the Klang Valley on a limited basis today,
lets users change operators but keep their numbers.
"MNP takes away the inconvenience associated with switching service
providers," said Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor, the Energy, Water and
Communications Minister, in a statement released yesterday.
Starting today, the service is available to prepaid users, followed by
postpaid user in the middle of September.
The nationwide launch of MNP is in October. The service is also
available to individual account users first, followed by those on
business accounts in October. Until the nationwide launch, each operator
can only accept 100 MNP requests a day.
"Mobile phone users are advised not to rush into it but should first
study the various packages being offered before choosing the new service
provider of their choice," Shaziman said.
Those who are keen to sign up for MNP should contact any of the mobile
service providers, he added.
There are also frequently-asked-questions on MNP at the ministry's
website, www.skmm.gov.my.

National Council for the Blind, Malaysia and Microsoft Malaysia To Introduce The ‘Save As DAISY XML’ Add-in For Microsoft Word
The National Council for the Blind, Malaysia (NCBM) presented a new software feature that will allow anyone to create documents with content that can be accessible by Malaysians with assistive needs including the blind, visually impaired or physically challenged. The function known as the ‘Save As DAISY XML’ add-in, designed for Microsoft Word 2007, Word 2003 and Word XP, will allow users to save Open XML-based text files into DAISY XML – the foundation of the globally accepted DAISY standard for reading and publishing navigable multimedia content.
Dato’ S. Kulasegaran, President of NCBM, shared that “In recent decades, individuals with assistive needs have increasingly accessed information using a wide variety of assistive technologies such as screen readers, large print, refreshable Braille and text-to-speech synthesizers”. As it was not possible to navigate complex page layouts, they often struggle to keep up with the demands of today’s increasingly information-dependent society. The ‘Save As DAISY XML’ makes it possible to navigate quickly through a document by heading or page number as well as the use of indices and references. The add-in not only provides access to an unprecedented amount of data and documents that was previously unavailable but also provides the ease of finding information needed within those documents.
“The new ‘Save As DAISY XML’ functionality for Microsoft Word has the potential to break down barriers for individuals with assistive needs and enhance the experience for anyone who wants to read, not only materials created locally but also on a global level,” added Dr. Dzahar Mansor, Microsoft Malaysia’s National Technology Officer.
Microsoft’s initiative to put ‘Save As DAISY XML’ in Microsoft Word is the first step to bring fully accessible content to people with assistive needs. With much of the information on documents today being created with Microsoft Word – the new add-in provides a historic leap forward in the nationwide effort to make information available to all. The effort is part of Microsoft’s Unlimited Potential initiative to help bridge the digital divide by creating more programmes that will help the community, transform education and support partnerships through technology.
Today, about 600 visually impaired people in the country use Microsoft Word and will be able to experience immediate benefits from this feature. Dr. Dzahar shared that “because Microsoft Word is a commonly used tool, this add-in allows for content creators in different fields to produce accessible digital material by and for Malaysians, especially individuals with assistive needs.”
The ‘Save As DAISY XML’ tool also presents the opportunity for organisations and independent software vendors to explore ways in which the technology may be used to format their information to be accessed by people with assistive needs. Organisations in the fields of insurance and healthcare or those who publish training manuals will also be able to make their information accessible to Malaysians with different needs.
Kulasegaran added “There have been specific challenges that universities and public institutions face in providing books and materials for those who cannot read. Functionalities like the new ‘Save As DAISY XML’ feature within Microsoft Word can reduce the expense and increase the ease of delivering accessible content to Malaysians who require it.”
The event also included a demonstration on the usage of the ‘Save As DAISY XML’ feature by Moses Choo, Assistant Executive Director of Blind Professional Assistance Service (BPAS), a section of the NCBM.
For more information on the ‘Save as DAISY XML’ tool, please visit the NCBM website on www.ncbm.org.my.

Crafted from premium materials inside and out, the BlackBerry Bold smartphone is the first BlackBerry® smartphone to support tri-band HSDPA high-speed networks around the world, providing superior functionality and performance for business professionals and power users.
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone integrates 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi® and GPS, which can pinpoint the user's location and supports location-based applications and services. It comes with a beautiful half-VGA (480x320 resolution at 217 ppi) color LCD that is fused to the undersurface of the lens, making images and videos appear in stunning definition and clarity. The smartphone also comes with rich multimedia capabilities including a media player for music, videos and photos and a 2 megapixel camera with video recording.
“The addition of the BlackBerry Bold smartphone gives Celcom one of the most attractive BlackBerry smartphone portfolios in the industry,” said Dato’ Sri Shazalli Ramly, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom (Malaysia) Berhad. “Customers will be attracted to the BlackBerry Bold smartphone’s robust features, stylish design, and rich multimedia and productivity capabilities. This helps Celcom customers get the most out of our network, one of the fastest, widest, clearest and best networks in Malaysia.”
“The BlackBerry Bold smartphone provides BlackBerry customers with unprecedented display quality, speed, power and functionality for both professional and personal use in a stylish design that exudes confidence. We are very pleased to be working with Celcom to bring this breakthrough smartphone to customers in Malaysia,” said Dany Bolduc, Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Research In Motion.
Outstanding performance with superb phone features
Powering its robust communications and multimedia capabilities, including phone, email, messaging, organizer, browser, camera and media player, the BlackBerry Bold smartphone comes with a next-generation 624 MHz mobile processor, 128 MB Flash memory plus 1 GB on-board storage memory, and a microSD/SDHC memory card slot* that is conveniently accessible from a side door. DataViz® Documents to Go® is also preloaded, enabling users to edit Microsoft® Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly on the smartphone.
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone also features a new acoustic design that increases the size of the phone’s audio sweet spot, improving listening quality and clarity. It comes with support for hands-free headsets, stereo headsets, car kits (including car kits that adhere to the Bluetooth Remote SIM Access Profile) and other Bluetooth peripherals, noise cancellation technology that offsets background noise, a powerful speaker phone and support for polyphonic, mp3 and MIDI ring tones.
Robust email and messaging
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone works with BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, which enables advanced security and IT administration within IBM® Lotus® Domino®, Microsoft® Exchange and Novell® GroupWise® environments, as well as BlackBerry® Professional Software for small businesses. It also works with BlackBerry® Internet Service, which gives users access to up to 10 supported work or personal email accounts (including most popular ISP email accounts).
Rich multimedia functionality with desktop-style web pages
The BlackBerry Bold smarpthone features a 2 megapixel camera with video recording capability and an enhanced media player that can display pictures and slideshows quickly, play movies smoothly in full screen mode, and manage an entire music collection. Audio can be played over the handset’s dual speakers in rich, stereo sound, and when using headphones or external speakers, the media player gives the user an equalizer with 11 preset filters – like "Lounge", "Jazz" and "Hip Hop" – that boost or soften audio ranges to create the perfect ambiance.
Managing music, pictures and video is made easy with the inclusion of Roxio® Media Manager for BlackBerry® as well as Roxio Photosuite® 9 LE in the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager software. Users can enhance pictures and create photo albums on the computer. For users that manage their collection with iTunes®, the new BlackBerry® Media Sync application provides a simple way to sync iTunes digital music collections with the smartphone**.
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone also comes with a newly enhanced, high performance browser, giving users an on-the-go web browsing experience with desktop-style depiction. The trackball mimics a mouse, making it easy to navigate sites in "Page View" or "Column View" or to zoom in on specific parts of a web page, while various emulation settings allow users to choose between the full desktop-style HTML content and layout or the mobile version.
In conjunction with the launch of the BlackBerry Bold smartphone, Celcom also introduced its new Celcom PowerTools Mobile Email Plans, which will allow customers to access their corporate and personal email accounts from as low as RM38 a month. For BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers, there are three options for light, medium, and heavy email users, and additional plans for those who deploy BlackBerry® Professional Software and/or BlackBerry® Enterprise Server within their company.
“Our customers demand instant and reliable connectivity as well as seamless communication, which is why we have introduced such flexible mobile email solutions. Customers will recoup the cost in a day from the time and travel saved by having email at their fingertips, and the corresponding increase in productivity and efficiency,” Dato’ Sri Shazalli added.
Availability
The BlackBerry Bold smartphone is scheduled to be available for Celcom customers in Malaysia in the third week of September 2008, retailing at RM2,499 (with Celcom PowerTools Mobile Email Plans).
